The Walnut Slab Communal Table is the long table for rooms that want timber, not stone. The top is solid dark walnut, 2⅜ in (6 cm) thick, with a crisp edge; it stands on two solid timber panel legs, each with a rounded cut-out that lightens the mass and gives the hand somewhere to grip when the table is moved.
The legs are tied to the top with exposed brass pins — a detail borrowed from traditional knock-down furniture that is also genuinely useful. The pins allow the table to be dismantled for shipping and re-tightened on site, and the brass marks the joint as a design feature rather than hiding it.
Solid timber this thick moves with the seasons. We fix the top through slotted connections so it can expand and contract without splitting, seal both faces equally, and finish it in a hard commercial lacquer or 2K polyurethane that stands up to wine, water and sanitiser.
Unlike stone, a walnut top can be sanded and refinished years from now, which makes it a sound long-term investment for a signature table.
